About
Formed in Isabela, Puerto Rico by siblings Willy, Lorén and Wester Aldarondo, Chuwi came up during the wave of political unrest that followed the Telegramgate protests on the island. That context runs straight through their music: themes of Puerto Rican independence, migration and gentrification are central to their lyrics, and the combination caught the ears of notable figures like Eduardo Cabra and Buscabulla. They released the EP Pan in 2022 and followed it up with Tierra in 2024. The group got a serious boost when Bad Bunny tapped them for his sixth solo album Debí Tirar Más Fotos, featuring them on the single Weltita and bringing them along for his concert residency No Me Quiero Ir de Aquí at the José Miguel Agrelot Coliseum. It is a striking run for a group that has been carving out a politically charged, distinctly Puerto Rican sound since 2019.
