About
Also known as: Antonious Bernard Thomas, Cody Chesnut, Cody ChessnuTT, Cody ChestnuTT, Cody Chestnut
Cody ChesnuTT made one of the great lo fi records of the 2000s in his bedroom. The Headphone Masterpiece, a sprawling double album from 2002, was recorded on a 4 track cassette machine in a home studio he calls The Sonic Promiseland, and it mixes rock, funk, soul, hip hop and blues into something raw and unmistakably his own. Before that, the Atlanta born musician had written and produced five songs for the R&B group Six Feet Deep and had a short run with Hollywood Records with his band The Crosswalk. His biggest brush with the mainstream came when The Roots remade his song The Seed as The Seed (2.0) on Phrenology. He plays guitar and sings on it, and the video got heavy rotation on MTV and BET. A Shortlist Music Prize nomination followed in 2003. Later came the EP Black Skin No Value, the albums Landing On A Hundred and My Love Divine Degree, a live spot on Later... with Jools Holland, and an original song, Parting Ways, for Pixar's Soul.
