Dark Funeral have been one of the most uncompromising forces in Swedish black metal since guitarist Lord Ahriman co founded the band in Stockholm in 1993, right in the thick of the second wave. Their 1996 debut The Secrets of the Black Arts set the tone: recorded with Peter Tägtgren at The Abyss Studio, it was a deliberately fierce and unpolished statement that earned them a deal with Metal Blade in North America. From there, the band toured relentlessly, sharing stages with Cannibal Corpse, Dimmu Borgir, Deicide and Immortal across Europe and North America. Over seven full length albums, Dark Funeral have kept their melodic black metal sound sharp and consistent. Highlights along the way include Diabolis Interium, which opened up licensing deals across Japan, Brazil, Russia and beyond, and Where Shadows Forever Reign from 2016. Their most recent album We Are the Apocalypse arrived in 2022, showing no signs of the band easing off.
