Few artists can claim they genuinely changed what a genre sounds like, but Dizzee Rascal is one of them. Coming up through the pirate radio scene and Roll Deep Crew, he put grime on the map with his self produced debut Boy in da Corner in 2003, winning the Mercury Prize at just 19 and becoming the youngest ever recipient. That record is still widely considered the greatest British hip hop album ever made, and it went platinum. He followed it with Showtime and Maths + English, both gold certified and both cracking the UK top ten. Then came Tongue n' Cheek in 2009, a hard pivot toward pop that produced four number one singles including 'Bonkers' and 'Holiday' and went double platinum. After exploring a more commercial sound on The Fifth, he snapped back to grime with Raskit in 2017. He has since put out E3 AF in 2020 and Don't Take It Personal in 2024, showing no signs of slowing down.
