Durban's Dlala Thukzin, real name Thuthuka Zindlovu, built his reputation on an ability to move fluidly between gqom, amapiano and afro tech in ways that few producers manage convincingly. He first caught serious attention by producing Babes Wodumo's "Umngan'wami" from her 2016 project Gqom Queen Vol. 1, a record that helped put South African gqom on the map internationally. Since then he has kept a steady stream of music coming. His 2021 track "Phuze" and its remix earned Gold and Platinum certifications from the Recording Industry of South Africa, and his 2023 single "iPlan" went even further, hitting number one on the Official South African Charts' local streaming rankings as well as topping the Billboard South Africa songs chart and picking up a double Platinum certification. That kind of chart dominance, across multiple formats, says a lot about where he sits in the South African dance music scene right now.
