About
Dutch String Collective is a Netherlands based ensemble that treats classical music as a journey rather than a formal occasion. Their programmes range widely, from medieval repertoire and Baroque composers like Purcell and Vivaldi through to Romantic and twentieth century works, including Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings, and on into music from films, series and games. Bridgerton, Zelda and Skyrim all get a look in alongside the traditional concert hall canon. A defining part of their approach is the way violinist Marieke de Bruijn weaves spoken commentary into performances, guiding listeners through what they are actually hearing in a warm and often playful way. The collective deliberately sidesteps the stiff conventions of classical concerts, making the music accessible without dumbing it down. No prior knowledge needed, just an ear open to quality playing.
