Named after Frank Herbert's sci fi novel and stylised to avoid confusion with it, Edinburgh's Dvne sit in a rare corner of heavy music where crushing sludge and post metal weight meets intricate, almost delicate melody. Their 2021 album Etemen Ænka was the record that cemented their reputation, a ten track concept piece about god like rulers, class struggle, and humanity's entanglement with technology. It landed on best of lists across Metal Hammer, The Heavy Blog Is Heavy, and Vision Mag, and earned them the Best Metal award at the Scottish Alternative Music Awards. Their 2024 follow up Voidkind leaned into the Hyperion Cantos novels for its concept, exploring religion and fanaticism with a rawer, more dynamic energy that critics responded to warmly. The band also released a live session recorded at their Edinburgh rehearsal studio, featuring four tracks from Voidkind, giving fans a close up view of how the record sounds in the room.
