Ed Harcourt has a knack for making music that feels like it came from somewhere genuinely dark and beautiful at the same time. The Wimbledon born singer songwriter cites Tom Waits, Nick Cave, and Jeff Buckley as touchstones, and you can hear all three in his bruised, piano heavy songs. His debut album Here Be Monsters landed a Mercury Prize nomination back in 2001, and From Every Sphere pushed even higher on the charts, cracking the top 40 in the UK and reaching number six in Sweden. Over ten studio albums he has kept things unpredictable, from recording Back into the Woods in a single day at Abbey Road to composing the soundtrack for the Donnie Darko sequel S. Darko. Since 2007 he has also been writing for other artists, including Sophie Ellis Bextor and Paloma Faith, and has shared stages with Marianne Faithfull and the Libertines. His 2020 video for Drowning in Dreams shows he is still very much at it.
