About
Effie, the South Korean hyperpop artist born Kim Na hyun, first made waves on SoundCloud in 2019 while still in high school, drawn into music by the influence of Drain Gang. Her debut EP Neon Genesis became a touchstone for what critics called South Korea's "sad girl movement", a striking early mark for an 18 year old releasing independently. Her debut album E arrived in 2025, its title a direct nod to Ecco2k's record of the same name, signalling exactly where her sonic allegiances lie. Later that same year she dropped the sprawling EP Pullup to Busan 4 More Hyper Summer It's Gonna Be a Fuckin Movie, and the reception was serious. Pitchfork scored it a 7.6, praising her personality in the performances, and New York Times critic Jon Caramanica named it the best album of 2025. For an artist who started posting tracks online as a teenager, that is quite the arc.
