About
Texan guitarist Eric Johnson has been one of rock music's most respected instrumentalists for over four decades. By the early 1980s, prominent guitarists were already talking about this Austin native with considerable admiration, drawn in by the sheer quality of his playing. His long awaited solo album Tones, released in 1986, cemented his reputation on a wider scale. What makes Johnson stand out is the sheer breadth of his musical palette. His work moves freely between rock, blues, jazz, fusion, soul, folk, new age, classical and country, yet he resists being pinned to any one of those labels. For Johnson, the genre is almost beside the point. What matters to him is the song itself and the ongoing challenge of making each project more meaningful than the last.
