About

Ezra Collective are a London based jazz quintet who have quietly redefined what a jazz band can sound like in the 21st century. Drummer and bandleader Femi Koleoso, his bassist brother TJ, keyboardist Joe Armon Jones, trumpeter Ife Ogunjobi and saxophonist James Mollison weave together afrobeat, reggae, calypso, hip hop and soul into something that feels genuinely alive. Their 2022 album Where I'm Meant to Be brought in guests like Sampa the Great and Kojey Radical, folded in dub and funk alongside post bop, and still clocked in at 70 minutes without losing its momentum. It won the Mercury Prize in 2023, making Ezra Collective the first jazz act to claim the award in the prize's 31 year history. Since then, their profile has only grown. Barack Obama picked their 2024 single "God Gave Me Feet for Dancing" for his personal list of 25 favourite songs of the year, and at the 2025 Brit Awards they became the first jazz band ever to win Group of the Year. The band cites Robert Glasper and Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp a Butterfly as early touchstones, and that mix of jazz rigour and street level energy is precisely what makes them hard to categorise and easy to love.
