About
Flip Noorman makes theatrical concerts that mix songs with sharp social commentary, and he does it with a band, De Noormannen, behind him. He's from Breda and works in the nederpop tradition, but his shows lean toward theatre as much as the club stage. Animal Farm was picked for the Cabaret Collectie of the Nederlands Theaterfestival and earned a nomination for the Poelifinario Kleinkunst. His later show Bonobo takes aim at the idea that the strongest always win. Flip asks whether humans are really just chimpanzees with machine guns and drones, and turns to the peaceful, matriarchal bonobo as a counter image. It doubles as a tribute to the primatologists Frans de Waal and Jane Goodall, and to his own mother, who was the matriarch of a household full of men. Politics, poetry and something personal sit side by side in his work.
