Gerson Main is a Surinamese Dutch singer songwriter, poet, guitarist and theatre maker from Paramaribo. His style lands somewhere between Caribbean country, danceable poetry and a distinctly offbeat take on Dutch popular song, and he sings exclusively in Dutch because he feels he can play with the language in ways that make his lyrics genuinely surprising. He released his debut album De Slechtste Singer songwriter van Nederland in 2016, and his second album Weg van dit feestje followed in 2024. Before going solo, Main played guitar for artists including Akwasi, Typhoon and Steffen Morrison, and co wrote the track Dorst with Akwasi and Rob Dekay, which went gold in the Netherlands. He reached the final of the TV competition De beste singer songwriter van Nederland in 2015, and a KPN ad pushed his cover of Benny Neyman's Ik weet niet hoe into the Dutch and Flemish charts. He also co wrote Luchtkastelen with Dio, which became an NPO 3FM Megahit, and has written music for campaigns including the NS and the 2021 Olympic Games.
