About
Gidge is a Swedish electronic duo from Umeå, where the dense northern forests aren't just a backdrop but an actual recording location. Ludvig Stolterman and Jonathan Nilsson build their sound from a mix of electronic production and organic elements like wooden and stone percussion, giving their ambient techno a texture that feels genuinely rooted in landscape. Their 2014 debut Autumn Bells racked up a million combined SoundCloud plays and won a Best New Artist poll at XLR8R, with sold out shows in Amsterdam, Berlin and London following close behind. Their track Norrland became something of a calling card, picked up in 2018 as the signature tune for a Huawei Mate 20 ad campaign. The 2020 album New Light showed the duo's ear for unconventional source material too, with a track called "over" built around a distorted vocal sample of a late pet budgie saying "such a pretty boy". It's that kind of detail that keeps Gidge interesting.
