Christian Löffler makes electronic music that sits somewhere between the dancefloor and a long walk through a misty forest. Born in Greifswald and based in the coastal town of Graal Müritz in northern Germany, he built his sound around field recordings from nature, processed through drum machines into something that critics have called contemplative house. His 2012 debut A Forest, recorded in isolation on the island of Usedom, is considered a classic of the genre. Over six studio albums, Löffler has pushed his music into unexpected places. Mare from 2016 featured 17 tracks, including four with vocalist Mohna, while Lys in 2020 finally landed him in the German album charts. His most striking detour came with Parallels: Shellac Reworks, made during the pandemic with Deutsche Grammophon archive shellac records, reworking Beethoven, Bach, Wagner and others in his own style. His 2024 album A Life, featuring Malou and Mogli, was praised as a deliberate argument for human creativity over AI. AllMusic sums his output up neatly: emotionally charged, melancholic music that feels isolated yet strangely appealing.
