About
Hawijch Elders plays on an 18th century Gennaro Gagliano violin, and the instrument suits her perfectly: this Dutch violinist has been racking up first prizes at international competitions since her teens. Her biggest win came at the 8th International Violin Competition Henri Marteau in 2023, where she took first place performing Paganini's first violin concerto with the Hofer Symphoniker, and picked up three additional special awards for her interpretations of Bach, Reger and Marteau. She completed both her Bachelor and Master of Music at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with the highest distinction, and since 2022 she has been Artist in Residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel, studying with Augustin Dumay. As a soloist she has performed with orchestras including the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, the Real Filharmonía de Galicia and the Amsterdam Symphony Orchestra. Her Bozar debut in Brussels in March 2023, performing Mozart's fourth Violin Concerto with the Wiener KammerOrchester, showed she is equally at home in a concert hall as in a competition hall. She also works regularly in chamber music, collaborating with violinists and cellists such as Valeriy Sokolov, Quirine Viersen and Maria Milstein.
