Based in Sweden but rooted in Australia, Hazlett (Mitchell Hazlett Lewis) makes the kind of intimate, stripped back folk that sounds like it was written in a quiet room at 2am. Before going solo he spent time as a ghostwriter and a bassist for hire, which probably explains the careful, understated craft running through his work. Triple j Unearthed picked him as a feature artist in 2019, and he followed that momentum with the EP Thundering Hopes in 2020 and his debut album Bloom Mountain in 2023. His 2025 album last night you said you missed me leans even further into that subdued sound, built around stripped back ballads and warm acoustic textures. Critics have called it a set of sonic postcards, short and unshowy, with songs that unfold slowly through subtle production. The record circles themes of loneliness and longing, and while some have flagged its consistency as a limitation, others hear it as exactly the point. He also opened for Noah Kahan at BST Hyde Park around the same time.
