About
Also known as: Helmut Barthold Johkiannes Alma Lotigiers, Helmut Lotigiers
Few careers have taken as many sharp turns as Helmut Lotti's. The Belgian tenor from Ghent started out as an Elvis impersonator, billed as "The New Elvis", before pivoting in 1995 to his enormously successful "Helmut Lotti Goes Classic" series, which mixed classical repertoire with symphonic arrangements and turned him into an international name. That first classic album, recorded live in Antwerp, became the best selling record in Belgian history. He has since explored African, Latino, Russian and pop styles, sung in over fifteen languages including Zulu, Hebrew and Ukrainian, and sold more than 13 million albums worldwide. Lotti is not someone who sits still in one genre for long. He has released swing records, crooner albums and a Dutch language singer songwriter record. Then in 2023 he showed up at Graspop Metal Meeting performing heavy metal, which is about as unexpected a move as his classical pivot was back in the nineties. He also volunteers as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador, adding a different kind of range to an already varied career.
