About
Huub van der Lubbe is best known as the frontman and driving voice of the Dutch rock band De Dijk, whose songs turn out to translate remarkably well into a classical string orchestra setting. When De Dijk called it a day in 2022, he stepped out on his own as a singer, poet and writer, carrying that catalogue with him into new territory. His collaboration with Amsterdam Sinfonietta is part of the ensemble's ongoing series Breder dan Klassiek, which has previously brought them together with artists like Karsu, Rufus Wainwright and Maria Mena. It is not entirely uncharted ground: Amsterdam Sinfonietta already shared a stage with De Dijk back in 2014. A more recent preview of what the pairing sounds like came at the Prinsengrachtconcert, where Van der Lubbe performed Amsterdam by Jacques Brel alongside the ensemble.
