Frank Boeijen built his reputation as one of the most distinctive Dutch singer songwriters of the 1980s, fronting the Frank Boeijen Groep out of Nijmegen. The band had a knack for turning weighty subjects into compelling pop: "Zwart Wit" addressed the racist murder of Kerwin Duinmeijer, while "Kronenburg Park" took on sex work with R&B group Mai Tai on backing vocals. His style sits somewhere between pop and chanson, with poetic and often melancholic lyrics that set him apart from most of his contemporaries. After disbanding the group in 1991, Boeijen stepped out as a solo artist and kept the momentum going, touring both the Netherlands and Belgium with a rotating cast of collaborators. In 2005 he received the Edison award for his contributions to Dutch music, capping more than 25 years in the business. By 2017 he had released his 26th album, showing no signs of running out of things to say.
