Jake Bugg's self titled debut landed at number one on the UK Albums Chart in 2012, a striking entrance for a Nottingham singer songwriter blending retro folk with rock riffs sharp enough to cut glass. That album has sold over 600,000 copies in the UK alone, and his single "Trouble Town" became the theme for all three series of the BBC drama Happy Valley. He followed up by recording his second album, Shangri La, with Rick Rubin in Malibu, pulling in Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers on drums along the way. His sound has shifted across each record. On My One leaned darker and more personal, Hearts That Strain was a largely acoustic set produced by Dan Auerbach, and Saturday Night, Sunday Morning from 2021 pushed him into more pop territory. He also stepped outside his usual lane to collaborate with house act CamelPhat on the track Be Someone, which picked up a UK Music Video Award nomination.
