About
JJ is an Austrian singer with a genuinely unusual vocal identity: he performs as a sopranist, a type of countertenor whose range pushes into full soprano territory, and he weaves that operatic power through a pop framework that ends up sounding like nothing else on a mainstream stage. That combination landed him on the Eurovision Song Contest 2025, representing Austria with "Wasted Love", a track he co wrote alongside Austrian 2023 Eurovision representative Teodora Špirić and producer Thomas Thurner. He won the whole contest with 436 points, taking both the jury vote and a strong slice of the televote. His win came with a few historic footnotes: he became the first Eurovision winner of Southeast Asian descent, and the first solo winner born in the 2000s. Outside the contest, he has been open about being queer and sees himself as a voice for that community in Austria. In late 2025 he picked up two fan voted Eurovision Awards, including Outstanding Vocals, partly thanks to a mashup with Conchita Wurst blending their respective Eurovision entries.
