Something about José González that immediately sets him apart: the Gothenburg singer songwriter built his signature sound around solo classical guitar and hushed vocals, a style delicate enough that his acoustic cover of the Knife's "Heartbeats" became arguably more famous than the original. That cover, alongside his take on Massive Attack's "Teardrop", brought him to a wide audience and led to his music featuring prominently on the soundtrack to Ben Stiller's 2013 film The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. His studio albums, from the debut Veneer through to Vestiges and Claws, show a songwriter who thinks carefully about what he puts on record. In Our Nature drew on books by Richard Dawkins and Peter Singer, and Vestiges and Claws won the IMPALA Album of the Year Award. Outside his solo work, González plays in the band Junip and has collaborated with Zero 7, Finnish DJ Jori Hulkkonen, and contributed to Red Hot Organization compilations. His 2021 single "El Invento" marked his first release with Spanish lyrics, followed by the album Local Valley later that year.
