Julia Wolf makes the kind of alt pop that sounds like it was pulled straight from a late night journal, all layered production, confessional lyrics, and vocals that float somewhere between intimacy and unease. She built her following largely through TikTok and Spotify playlist placements before releasing her debut EP Girls in Purgatory in 2021, which drew comparisons to Caroline Polachek and Lorde for its blend of indie pop and emotional directness. Her 2023 album Good Thing We Stayed leaned into introspective storytelling over guitar and electronic textures, earning praise from outlets like The Line of Best Fit. Then came Pressure in 2025, a noticeably sharper turn toward alt rock territory, with grunge and heavy metal influences woven through tracks she described as being about creative anxiety and wanting to sound powerful rather than palatable. Paste called it a confident fusion of pop melodicism and emotional volatility, which just about sums it up.
