Richmond, Virginia's Lamb of God built one of the most recognizable sounds in American heavy metal, blending groove metal heaviness with metalcore aggression into something that genuinely carved out its own space. Starting out in 1994 under the name Burn the Priest, the band went through lineup shifts before settling into the five piece that would sign to Prosthetic Records and release New American Gospel in 2000. That debut put them on the map fast, on both sides of the Atlantic. From there, Lamb of God kept building momentum with a string of albums including Ashes of the Wake and Sacrament, both of which went gold. The band has picked up five Grammy nominations in the Best Metal Performance category and released their self titled tenth album in 2020, followed by Omens in 2022. Songs like Laid to Rest and Redneck became genuine touchstones for a generation of metal fans.
