Orlando's Trivium have spent over two decades carving out a reputation as one of heavy metal's most versatile and uncompromising bands. The trio at the heart of the group, vocalist and guitarist Matt Heafy, guitarist Corey Beaulieu, and bassist Paolo Gregoletto, have kept the creative engine running through ten studio albums that range from metalcore aggression to thrash metal swagger to full progressive metal territory. Their 2005 album Ascendancy was the record that put them on the map globally, with Kerrang! naming it Album of the Year and a landmark Download Festival set cementing their live reputation. The Crusade followed in 2006 and debuted at number 25 on the Billboard 200, though it sparked debate for leaning hard into Metallica influenced clean vocals and thrash sounds. Trivium have never stood still stylistically, and that restlessness keeps their catalog interesting. They earned a Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance for the song "Betrayer" in 2019 and have shifted drummers more than once without losing momentum. Their tenth album, In the Court of the Dragon, arrived in 2021, and tracks like "What the Dead Men Say" show a band still pushing forward with purpose.
