Killswitch Engage built their reputation as one of metalcore's defining acts out of Westfield, Massachusetts, and their 2004 album The End of Heartache was the moment everything clicked. It peaked at number 21 on the Billboard 200, went gold in the US, and the title track earned a Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance. Their fourth album, As Daylight Dies, went platinum, as did the single "My Curse". By 2014, both OC Weekly and Ultimate Guitar had called them the greatest metalcore band of all time. The band has had two distinct eras shaped by their vocalists. Jesse Leach founded the group but stepped away after two albums, with Howard Jones stepping in for a decade of major success. When Jones departed in 2012, Leach returned and the band hit the ground running with Disarm the Descent, which went top 10 in the US and produced the Grammy nominated "In Due Time". A third nomination followed for "Unleashed" in 2020. Their ninth album, This Consequence, arrived in February 2025.
