About
Also known as: Laura Anne Gibson, Лора Гибсон, لورا گیبسون
Laura Gibson has a small but real claim on music history: after one of her gigs, a couple of NPR journalists couldn't hear her over the crowd, and that frustration helped spark the Tiny Desk Concerts. She played the very first installment in 2008, and came back for the 200th. The Oregon singer songwriter started out playing songs for hospice patients before putting out her debut, If You Come to Greet Me, in 2006. Since then she has moved between quiet folk records and odder projects. Bridge Carols, made with Ethan Rose, featured experimental vocals recorded outdoors. La Grande, named after the Oregon town, drew warm reviews, and Pitchfork praised the persistence of her vision. Empire Builder followed in 2016, then Goners in 2018 on Barsuk and City Slang. She has also written for commercials, a ballet company and a musical made with performers with developmental disabilities.
