About
Lee Rocker built his reputation as one of rock and roll's most distinctive upright bassists through his work with the Stray Cats, the rockabilly band he co founded in 1979 with Brian Setzer and Slim Jim Phantom. Together they sold nearly 10 million albums and racked up twenty three gold and platinum certified records worldwide, becoming a fixture on MTV along the way. His slap bass style is the engine of the whole operation, rooted in the sounds he absorbed from Elvis Presley and Carl Perkins records. Beyond the Stray Cats, Rocker has collaborated with an impressive roster including Carl Perkins, George Harrison, Keith Richards, and Scotty Moore, and formed the side project Phantom, Rocker and Slick with Slim Jim Phantom and Earl Slick. His solo catalogue stretches from blues leaning records on Black Top and Alligator Records to the live album The Low Road, captured at Daryl Hall's venue in New York. In 2019 he released the single "Dog House Shuffle", a reflective tribute to the upright bass and four decades of playing it.
