About
Rotterdam's Batmobile holds a special place in psychobilly history as the first band outside the United Kingdom to play the legendary Klub Foot in London, sharing the stage with Demented Are Go and Torment back in 1986. The trio, Jeroen Haamers on vocals and guitar, his brother Eric on upright bass, and Johnny Zuidhof on drums, have kept the same lineup since forming in 1983, which is remarkable for any band of their era. Their sound grew out of a love for classic American rockabilly sped up with punk energy, a discovery they more or less stumbled into while trying to win over a disinterested crowd at a rural bar. Over the decades they built a serious catalogue, including the debut full length Bambooland in 1987 and the Motörhead covering Bail Was Set at $6,000,000 in 1988, and even earned not one but two tribute albums from Japanese fans featuring 33 international bands. After years of sporadic activity they came back strong with Brand New Blisters in 2017 and have been releasing new material regularly since, capping it off with the 40th anniversary album Brace for Impact in 2023.
