Liana Flores writes the kind of bossa nova folk songs that quietly sneak into your head and stay there. Her 2019 track 'rises the moon' sat unnoticed for a couple of years before going viral on TikTok in 2021, launching a career that eventually landed her a deal with Verve Records. She draws on a love of artists like Astrud Gilberto, João Gilberto, Vashti Bunyan and Nick Drake, blending the intimacy of 1960s folk with the gentle swing of bossa nova, most of it built around just her voice and guitar. Her debut album Flower of the Soul arrived in June 2024, and the single 'rises the moon' has since gone platinum in the US. She writes from lyric collages, circling themes of relationships and the natural world, and the whole thing has a warmth and simplicity that feels very intentional. Lately she has been putting out covers of bossa nova classics on YouTube, a nod to the music that shaped her sound from the start.
