Mei Semones makes music she describes as jazz influenced indie J pop, singing in both English and Japanese and weaving bossa nova textures and jazz guitar into a sound that feels genuinely hard to pin down. She signed to Bayonet Records for her 2024 EP Kabutomushi, which earned her a "Best of What's Next" nod from Paste magazine, and followed that with her debut studio album Animaru in 2025. Her earlier self released EP Tsukino came out in 2022, with Sukikirai arriving the same year as a graduation project via Northeastern University's Green Line Records. Recently she has been sharing new music including the single "I can do what I want" and offering fans guitar tutorials for her song "Dumb Feeling", giving her growing audience a closer look at how her songs are built.
