About
Also known as: Luar na Lumbre
Luar Na Lubre's big break came from an unlikely source: Mike Oldfield heard their song "O Son do Ar" and was so taken with it that he covered it on his Voyager album as "Song of the Sun", then invited the Galician ensemble on a worldwide tour under the Tubular Bells 3 banner in 1992. That kind of cosign from a prog legend will do wonders for your profile. The group, formed in A Coruña, plays Celtic and traditional Galician music, with most lyrics in the Galician language. Bagpipes, bodhran, bouzouki, flutes and zanfoña fill out their sound, giving it a distinctly ancient Atlantic feel. Their song "Nau", written by band leader Bieito Romero, pictures Galicia as a ship without direction, and "Memoria da Noite" proved popular enough that Spanish folk metal act Mägo de Oz recorded their own version. With releases stretching across more than three decades, including XX Encrucillada in 2023, they remain one of Galicia's most enduring musical exports.
