About

Marie Jacquot has been racking up some of the most prestigious conducting posts in Europe at a pace that's hard to ignore. The Paris born conductor currently serves as music director of the Royal Danish Orchestra, and she was also named principal guest conductor of the Vienna Symphony, becoming the first woman ever appointed to that role. On top of that, she will take over as chief conductor of the WDR Symphony Orchestra from the 2026 to 2027 season, again a first for a woman in that position. Before landing these headline roles, Jacquot built her craft at major opera houses, leading productions of Verdi, Mozart, Rossini and Bartók at Würzburg and the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. She trained under Kirill Petrenko as his assistant at the Bavarian State Opera, which tells you something about the level she was operating at early on. In 2024 she picked up the Révélation cheffe d'orchestre prize at the Victoires de la Musique Classique, a tidy bit of recognition to go alongside everything else.
