About

MaYaN is a Dutch symphonic death metal band built around a rotating cast of vocalists, mixing clean singing, grunts, and screams over a dense blend of heavy and symphonic metal. Founded in 2010 by Mark Jansen, who named the project out of his fascination with the ancient Maya civilisation, the band has never really settled into a fixed lineup, instead pulling in a remarkable range of singers and players over the years, including Floor Jansen and Simone Simons as guest vocalists. Their three studio albums, Quarterpast in 2011, Antagonize in 2014, and Dhyana in 2018, dig into themes like religion, politics, philosophy, and meditation. The lineup has evolved constantly, with Marcela Bovio eventually becoming a full member after years as a session contributor, and Adam Denlinger stepping in as lead vocalist from 2018 onward. It is a big, ambitious project, and that ambition comes through in every record.
