Montaigne, the stage name of Sydney's Jessica Cerro, makes art pop that feels both cerebral and visceral, nodding to the 16th century French philosopher in name while carving out something entirely their own in sound. Their 2016 debut album Glorious Heights hit No. 4 on the ARIA Albums Chart and won them the Breakthrough Artist award at that year's ARIA Music Awards. Around the same time, a feature spot on Hilltop Hoods' track "1955" pushed them to No. 2 on the singles chart. Their sophomore album Complex followed in 2019, and the track "Ready" from it later turned up in the end credits of the 2022 film Good Luck to You, Leo Grande. Montaigne also had a memorable brush with Eurovision. They won Australia Decides in 2020 with "Don't Break Me", only for the contest to be cancelled due to COVID 19. They came back the following year and represented Australia at Eurovision 2021 with the song "Technicolour", giving them a second shot at the global stage they had been denied.
