About
Born of English and Ghanaian roots, Myles Sanko makes soul and jazz music with a clear sense of purpose. He has said he wants his songs to do two things at once: lift people up and nudge them toward self reflection. That intention runs through five albums, starting out with a modern pop soul feel before he began folding in richer jazz textures around his third record, Just Being Me, released in 2016. His music draws on Ghanaian and French influences alongside soul and jazz, and he works in themes of love, hope and politics rather than sticking to straightforward love songs. Gregory Porter is among his musical friends, and fans of Leon Bridges or Michael Kiwanuka tend to find a lot to enjoy here. Before all of this, Sanko got his start as a street musician and rapper in clubs.
