About
Naaz is a Dutch Kurdish singer whose early recordings were made in her bedroom with just a computer, a microphone, and a keyboard, largely because her parents were against a music career at the time. That scrappy, intimate origin story comes through in her sound, which blends poignant lyricism with influences she's name checked herself: Linkin Park, Lorde, and Tove Lo. Her debut EP Bits of Naaz landed her spots at Rock Werchter and a run of European dates, plus two Edison Awards. Her 2023 album Never Have I Ever went deeper into her identity as a Kurdish Dutch woman, with the single "Azadi" (meaning "freedom" in Kurdish) tackling liberation and identity, and "Daughter" exploring the weight of family. She's also toured as support for both Hayley Kiyoko and Melanie Martinez, showing she can hold her own on bigger stages. Her songwriting keeps getting more personal and ambitious with each release.
