About
New Jazz Underground is a New York trio made up of Sebastian Rios, Abdias Armenteros and TJ Reddick, three musicians who first connected as students at Juilliard. What started as informal jam sessions evolved through the lockdown period into something tighter and more purposeful, with the group building a following through busking and viral living room performances that pulled in millions of viewers. Christian McBride, hearing them at the Newport Jazz Festival, called them one of the hottest new groups in jazz right now. Their sound moves freely between hard bop and hip hop, rooted in groove but never predictable. Tracks like MF Doom Suite, Harlem to Havana and cook/swing/work/relax show a band that respects jazz tradition while pushing it somewhere new. They have performed at Jazz at Lincoln Center, Birdland and major international festivals including Newport, Monterey and Montreal, and have taken their music to audiences in Shanghai and Hong Kong.
