Orkest van de Achttiende eeuw is a Dutch orchestra specialising in classical repertoire. One of the more intriguing corners of their work is unearthing pieces that rarely get airtime, and Haydn's comic opera Il mondo della luna is a good example of that instinct in action. Haydn's operas sit in a curious blind spot: overshadowed by his symphonies and string quartets, they are heard far less often than they deserve. The orchestra brings that neglected side of the repertoire to life with both precision and a sense of fun, working here under conductor Benjamin Perry Wenzelberg alongside the young singers of the Dutch National Opera Academy in a staging directed by Anja Kühnhold.
