David Bowie once called Ozark Henry's debut record 'debut of the year', yet it sold almost nothing. That gap between critical admiration and commercial reality closed pretty dramatically with Birthmarks in 2001, a platinum record that blended pop with strings and woodwinds and delivered the hits 'Rescue' and 'Sweet Instigator' to Belgian radio. The album marked a shift away from the experimental avant garde sound of his earlier work, and the follow up The Sailor Not the Sea went double platinum. Ozark Henry is the stage name of Piet Goddaer, a Kortrijk born singer, songwriter and producer who writes, composes and produces everything himself. Beyond his studio albums, he has scored film and TV work, including the soundtrack for Crusade in Jeans and the Belgian TV series Sedes & Belli, and won the Magritte Award for Best Original Score for The World Belongs to Us. His 2015 album Paramount was recorded with the National Orchestra of Belgium, and he has also collaborated with Italian singer Elisa on a reworked version of 'We Are Incurable Romantics'.
