About
Pond have been one of the most restlessly inventive acts to come out of Perth, Australia, churning through psychedelic rock, psychedelic pop, neo psych and synth pop across eleven studio albums since forming in 2008. The band shares deep roots with Tame Impala, with members crossing over between both groups over the years, and Kevin Parker produced Pond's records right up until 2020, when the band took full creative control of their own sound. That shift has only sharpened their identity. Lead singer Nick Allbrook, Jay Watson, Shiny Joe Ryan, Jamie Terry and James Ireland have settled into a tight core lineup, with Watson and Ireland also pulling double duty as touring members of Tame Impala under their solo aliases GUM and Ginoli. Albums like The Weather and Tasmania picked up serious critical heat, with reviewers noting a real maturation in the songwriting without losing any of the wild, sprawling energy that made them worth following in the first place.
