About
Temples built their reputation from the ground up in the most DIY way possible: James Bagshaw and Tom Walmsley recorded their first four tracks at home in Kettering and uploaded them to YouTube, which was enough to catch the ear of Heavenly Recordings founder Jeff Barrett. Their debut album Sun Structures landed in 2014 and shot to number seven on the UK charts, a remarkable result for a band that had never even played live before signing to a label. Their sound pulls from classic psychedelic and melodic rock, leaning heavily on vintage gear like Vox amps and Roland organs, and that warmth comes through on everything from the hypnotic single Mesmerise to the fuzzier edges of their 2019 record Hot Motion. Now signed to ATO Records, they have four studio albums under their belt, with Exotico arriving in 2023. Noel Gallagher is a fan, and has publicly called out UK radio for not giving them more airplay, which feels about right.
