About
Protest the Hero are a Canadian progressive metal band from Whitby, Ontario, and they have built a serious reputation for technical complexity, wild tempo shifts, and the remarkable vocal range of singer Rody Walker. Their 2005 debut album Kezia, a concept album the band described as a "situationist requiem", earned universal acclaim and set the tone for a career defined by ambitious, genre blending records. Fortress followed in 2008 and pushed things in an even more technical direction, while 2011's Scurrilous and 2013's Volition continued to develop their sound. Volition was notably crowdfunded through Indiegogo after the band grew frustrated with label politics, and the campaign was a runaway success. Their fifth studio album Palimpsest arrived in 2020, delayed after Walker experienced issues with his voice during touring.
