RA

About

Ra named themselves after the Egyptian sun god, and that solar obsession runs through their music too: frontman Sahaj Ticotin has said that 80 to 90 percent of their songs contain the word "sun" somewhere in the lyrics. The New York City alternative metal band broke through with "Do You Call My Name" from their 2002 album From One, which peaked at number 14 on the Billboard charts and helped them sell over 400,000 albums across North America. Their follow up, Duality, had a rocky road to release, with Universal initially sitting on it before it finally came out in 2005 and sold 80,000 copies on the strength of tracks like "Fallen Angels" and a cover of The Police's "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic". Later records including Black Sun and the rarities collection Black Sheep kept the band active, with singles like "Don't Turn Away" and "Broken Hearted Soul" adding to a catalogue that blends heavy riffs with funk, soul and a theatrical sense of drama.
