About
As a founding member of Golden Earring, Rinus Gerritsen has spent decades as one of the most recognizable bassists in Dutch rock. He and neighbour George Kooymans started playing together as teenagers, eventually building a band that scored worldwide hits with "Radar Love" in 1973, "Twilight Zone" in 1982, and "When the Lady Smiles" in 1984. Over their run, Golden Earring racked up nearly 30 top ten singles on the Dutch charts and put out 25 studio albums, a track record that earned them a devoted following far beyond the Netherlands. Gerritsen is more than just a bassist: he also plays keyboard, guitar and harmonica, and has worked as a producer for Herman Brood and Urban Heroes. He opened the Rock Palace music store in Den Haag with drummer Cesar Zuiderwijk in 1985, and writes columns for Dutch music magazine De Bassist. Steve Harris of Iron Maiden has cited him as a key influence, which tells you something about the weight Gerritsen carries in the world of rock bass.
