About
Also known as: The Fatal Flowers
Fatal Flowers were one of those Amsterdam rock bands that made people genuinely wonder why the rest of the world wasn't paying more attention. Founded in 1984, they drew heavily on 1960s rock influences and built their sound around thick, satisfying riffs at a time when punk and new wave ruled the Dutch scene. Their second album, Johnny D. Is Back!, produced by Mick Ronson, was voted best Dutch album of 1988 by readers of Oor magazine, and their earlier debut Younger Days had already earned them an Edison Award. The band called it quits in 1990 after three studio albums, with frontman Richard Janssen frustrated by their label Mercury's failure to push them properly outside the Netherlands. He always insisted the breakup made sense, saying the band was at its peak at home and it was simply time to move on. A 2002 reunion gig and a 2019 tour proved the fanbase never really went anywhere, with two sold out nights at Amsterdam's Paradiso confirming that. The Fatal Flowers have since announced a 2026 festival run with the same lineup that played those reunion shows.
