The Texas born singer songwriter spent years building that reputation the hard way, from fronting blues bands in Texas bars to performing at Carnegie Hall, and her long run with Blue Corn Music produced a string of albums that kept earning her Grammy nominations. That patience finally paid off in February 2025 when she won her first Grammy Award, taking Best Contemporary Blues Album for her 2024 record Mileage on Sun Records. Her catalog is stacked with highlights. Let It Burn brought in the Blind Boys of Alabama and the rhythm section of the Funky Meters. The Truth According to Ruthie Foster was cut at the legendary Ardent Studios in Memphis. She traded verses with Susan Tedeschi on a cover of "The Weight" alongside the Allman Brothers Band, and she appears on Warren Haynes' album Man In Motion. A US Artists fellowship, recognizing her contributions to American music, came with an unrestricted fifty thousand dollar award.
