About
Carolyn Wonderland plays guitar, slide guitar, mandolin, trumpet, and piano, and she brings all of it to a blues foundation that happily absorbs country, swing, zydeco, surf, gospel, soul, and cumbia. Based out of Austin after spending years gigging so relentlessly she literally lived out of her van, she built a reputation as one of the most versatile and committed players on the Texas circuit. Her 2008 album Miss Understood, produced by Ray Benson of Asleep at the Wheel and a fan of hers named Bob Dylan, landed the title track in the Top 50 of the Roots Music Report chart. She has collaborated with Jerry Lightfoot and Grateful Dead alumnus Vince Welnick, fronted the all girl southern rock band Sis DeVille, and in 2018 became the only female lead guitarist John Mayall ever brought into his band across a career spanning more than sixty years.
