Samantha Fish plays guitar like she has something to prove, and her Kansas City roots have never stopped her from pulling from just about every corner of American music. Blues is the spine of what she does, but her records wander through rock, country, funk, and bluegrass without ever feeling scattered. Her 2011 debut album Runaway won the Blues Music Award for Best New Artist, and she has kept building from there across a string of solo records. Her range really shows in the catalogue. Kill or Be Kind landed her on Rounder Records and was picked as a Favorite Blues Album by AllMusic, while Faster brought in Kansas City rapper Tech N9ne and drummer Josh Freese for something with a harder edge. Her 2023 team up with Jesse Dayton, Death Wish Blues, earned a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Blues Album, and her 2025 album Paper Doll picked up another nomination in the same category.
